About the Swamp & Plantation Tour
First we meet our captain and head out for a guided swamp tour through Maurepas, one of Louisiana’s most scenic swamps. Great for photographers and wildlife lovers! Next we enjoy a home-cooked Cajun lunch with lots of fresh caught seafood available on the menu (lunch is not included in the trip price). Then we visit the Whitney Plantation, built in 1752 and recently restored as a museum and slave memorial.

8:30 a.m. – Our driver picks you up in New Orleans and drives you to our river launch spot in the Maurepas.
9:30 p.m. – Our captain and guide takes you on a two-hour swamp tour of one of the most scenic and secluded swamps in Southern Louisiana. Its towering cypress trees draped with Spanish moss provide shelter for turtles, snakes, alligators, the great blue heron, and countless other creatures, including the largest woodpecker in North America.
12:00 p.m. – Our driver takes you to B&C Seafood near the Whitney Plantation for amazing gumbo and specialties made with locally caught seafood. Snack on alligator bites, frog legs, or chow down on a soft-shell crab po’ boy. Owner Tommy Breaux is a well-known entrepreneur in the community. Note that lunch is not included in the trip price.
1:45 p.m. – Your trip leader drives you to the Whitney Plantation, a quick 10 minute drive away.
2:00 p.m. – Take a tour of the beautiful Whitney Plantation. The plantation was founded in 1752 and is located along the Mississippi on the historic River Road. After 16 years and $8 million worth of renovations, Whitney reopened its gates in 2014. It is the only museum in America dedicated to telling the story of the African slave trade and what life was like for the people who worked on these plantations. It is a beautiful property and an important educational experience for anyone interested in the history of Louisiana. (If you would prefer a different style of plantation tour we can offer visits to either the nearby Laura Plantation or Oak Alley Plantation instead. Oak Alley is a self-guided tour.)
4:00 p.m. – Our driver takes you back to your hotel, answering any questions you have and providing advice for the rest of your time here in New Orleans.
5:00 p.m. – Drop-off in New Orleans
About B&C Seafood
This down-home Cajun joint is owned by local entrepreneur Tommy Breaux. You can tell it’s the real deal because of all the local regulars. The prices are very reasonable, and the seafood is caught locally and processed at his own facility. There is no middleman – this is as fresh as it gets! Everything here is homemade, even the bread! Snack on boiled crabs, alligator bites, frog legs, and incredible gumbo, or chow down on a soft-shell crab po’ boy.
